Safety Town Program - June 10 - 14, 2024 - Session Three Safety Town is an interactive educational program that is designed to educate children on a variety of safety topics and techniques that can be utilized in real life situations. The program is designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. A daily theme can include but is not limited to traffic and pedestrian safety, stranger and drug safety, bicycle and animal awareness, home safety and emergency telephone use, police interaction, fire safety, school bus and seatbelt safety, and outdoor and water safety. Safety Town takes place at Westview Elementary School located at 155 Moore Rd. This safety education program is offered to children entering kindergarten. One important goal is for each child to be able to state their full name, address and phone number. Participants will receive instruction on how to protect themselves from strangers, and meet the people who provide safety services to our city. They will ride on an actual school bus, and receive instruction on school bus safety. A staff consisting of two certified teachers and several youth volunteers from our community will be present daily to help the children learn about important safety issues. The children will spend part of their day outdoors (weather permitting) learning how to stay safe in a miniature town that includes crosswalks, traffic signals, and sidewalks. They will ride around their town on kit cars with supervision from our staff. The other part of their day will be spent indoors. Safety Town sessions will go on as scheduled rain or shine.
